    • Introduction

      Welcome to Module 2 of the Diploma in Education Leadership and Management Program. The Module is entitled "Transforming Education Management".

      In this  module, we shall  explore the approaches and practices required to transform education management. We shall  examine a range of approaches to management and the implications of such approaches for education managers. 

      The general aim of this module is to help you transform your education institution. 

       


    • UNIT 1: LEADING AND MANAGING TO ACHIEVE RESULTS

      Welcome to Unit 1 of Module 2. In this unit we shall examine the concepts of leadership and management. It is important that we understand the difference between the two concepts. We shall also look at leadership styles, principles and functions of management.

    • UNIT 2.2: RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

      In Unit 1 you developed an understanding of leading and managing to achieve results. Now you are in a position to move onto the relationship oriented aspects of management. In this unit we will examine seven relationship management skills, namely, communication, public relations, conflict management, sharing leadership, developing and empowering others,negotiating, networking and emotional intelligence.


    • UNIT 2.3: STRATEGIC PLANNING

      This unit focuses on strategic planning. In this unit you will learn about strategic planning and its application.

      Furthermore, you will explore major components of strategic planning including fundamental statements, environmental scan and strategy formulation. The purpose of this unit is to help you develop a broader understanding of strategic planning as well as enable you to develop your own strategic plan. 


    • UNIT 2.4: BUILDING AND SUSTAINING TOP PERFORMING TEAMS

      This unit will provide you with insightful knowledge on team building, team motivation, communication within and between teams and ways of sustaining these teams for high productivity. Various activities and case studies are provided to enable you to understand various concepts in the establishment and sustenance of high performing teams.

    • UNIT 2.5: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

      In this unit you will learn about performance management. First we'll look at the concept and key dimensions of performance management. Next we focus on Result Based Management (RBM)tools. Thereafter we will examine strategic planning and management tools with specific reference to the Balanced Score Card (BSC). We'll end the Unit by examining continuous improvement approaches.



    • UNIT 2.6: CHANGE MANAGEMENT

      In order to make significant improvement in education management, you need to know how to lead change within your institutions. To help you lead change, this unit will focus on leading change, setting the climate for change, supporting change with management systems and scaling up change within and beyond your institution.


    • UNIT 2.7: QUALITY MANAGEMENT

      In this unit we will explore quality management that you as a manager will need to perform to improve customer service delivery. First we look at the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM). Then we discuss ISO certification as a vehicle to quality management. In the final part of this unit we examine the Customer Service Charter (CSC) as a tool for quality service delivery including effective customer care strategies.
