The Governing body of Tangaza School has expressed concerns regarding the external audit report of the school. Twelve months ago the external auditors strongly recommended that, in view of the irregular transactions entered into by the school, a procurement unit be established. According to the auditors, a specialized skill set is required at the school to address the procurement risks arising from the schools operations. In response to the auditors’ recommendations, Tangaza appointed a procurement clerk, eight months ago. Unfortunately, the procurement clerk has made little progress in formalizing procurement functions and addressing the key risks to which Tangaza is exposed.
