Case Study 2.1.1
Read the following case study and attempt the questions that follow. Record your responses in your personal journal.
Ms Sifa has been posted to a neighbouring education institution as the head of department. Ms Sifa believes in delegating tasks to her subordinates. For example, at the first department meeting she stated that she wanted to share the budgeting, scheduling and the allocation of departmental responsibilities with the members of the department. She believed that this would allow the members of the department to have a greater role in the decision making process. Unfortunately, this led to decreased morale and a feeling that Ms Sifa was assigning her work to department members. Furthermore, Ms Sifa did not assign the members of the department any co-curricular duties, assuming that the depart members would participate in these activities. However, this did not happen. The head of the institution has gotten concerned and has asked Ms Sifa whether she was up to the job of head of department.
