Welcome to Unit 1 where we will look at international, regional and national frameworks of education. We shall learn how this frameworks impacts on education in our country.

UNIT 1.2: POLICY AND LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF EDUCATION

In this unit, we examine the policy and legal frameworks of the education sector in Kenya. First we will examine the implications of the Constitution on education, next we will focus on the various Acts of parliament that relate to the education sector. Thereafter we will look at the national education philosophy, goals and objectives. Finally we will discuss the policy and legal framework of rights based education.

UNIT 1.3: ROLE OF EDUCATION MANAGERS, BODIES AND INSTITUTIONS

This unit presents the role of education managers, bodies and institutions. We will start by looking at the role of education managers. Next, we will examine the legal mandate of education bodies. We will then study the legal mandate of national education institutions. Finally, we will focus on the legal mandate of national.

UNIT 1.4: LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF PUBLIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

This unit covers the legal framework for the management of public resources. The unit begins by examining the public finance legal framework. Next we will look at the legal framework of human resource management. Finally, we focus on the reforms that have been implemented by the Government in relation to public resource management.

UNIT 1.5: LEGAL AND POLICY FRAMEWORK FOR ICT INTEGRATION IN EDUCATION
Introduction
Countries that have harnessed the potential of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) have attained significant social and economic development. In addition, they are rapidly transforming into information and knowledge-based economies. The importance of ICT in education cannot be over emphasized. ICT is considered to be the key to unlocking the skills and knowledge of our learners. It is also considered to be gateway for learning of the 21st Century skills. ICT has quickly become a valuable tool for making education management more effective. It is therefore important that teachers and education managers become familiar with the legal and policy framework for use of ICT in education.

UNIT 6: INTEGRITY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE
This unit covers Integrity and good governance as a strategy towards transforming education management. First we look at the concept of integrity and good governance, then discuss the malpractices that hinder integrity and good governance. The principles and legal framework of integrity and good governance are also discussed. The unit ends by looking at the tools that you can use to improve integrity and good governance in your institution.

UNIT 7: PERTINENT AND CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN EDUCATION
This unit covers pertinent and contemporary issues in education. These are pressing challenges that are facing the education sector. Hence it is important that we understand how these challenges can be addressed in our education institutions. In this unit we will discuss five major issues, namely, gender, HIV/AIDS, Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA), environmental issues and COVID 19. Finally how they can be mainstreamed in the education sector.
