Welcome to the module – Child Friendly School (CFS).This module has been designed to help you implement the Child Friendly School (CFS) approach. We shall learn about the concept of CFS and its various dimensions. We shall explore each dimension in order to understand what it entails and the skills required to implement the components.

UNIT 4.1: INTRODUCTION TO CHILD FRIENDLY SCHOOL
Welcome to Module 4 on Child Friendly Schools. Various school models illustrate ways to improve the quality of education.However, it is the Child Friendly School models that have emerged as the most comprehensive in their approach and the most widespread, both in the number of countries in which they have been put into practice and the geographical distribution of those countries.
In this unit we will learn about the concept of CFS, principles of CFS, benefits of CFS, steps to becoming a CFS and the implementation of the CFS model in various countries.

UNIT 4.2: INCLUSIVE LEARNER FRIENDLY SCHOOLS
In unit 1 we introduced the concept of the Child Friendly Schools (CFS). In this unit shall learn more about the dimensions of CFS. Specifically, we will examine the inclusive Child Friendly Schools which is a dimension of CFS. Specifically, we will look at the definition of inclusive CFS, legal framework for inclusive CFS, key performance area of inclusive CFS, components of inclusive CFS and skills required to implement inclusive CFS. -

UNIT 4.3: SAFE AND PROTECTIVE SCHOOLS
Welcome to unit 3 on Safe and Protective Schools. In this unit , you will learn about safe and protective schools—what they are, benefits of a safe and protective school, barriers to child safety and protection, and the legal framework for safe and protective schools, We shall also look at components of safe and protective schools and skills for enhancing safe and protective schools. -

UNIT 4.4: EQUITY AND EQUALITY PROMOTING SCHOOLS
Welcome to unit 4 where we will learn about equity and equality in child friendly schools. In the previous units, we have looked at two dimensions of CFS namely; inclusiveness and safety and protection in schools. In this unit, we shall explore the concept of equity and equality in out schools.We shall also examine the legal provisions for equity and equality. In addition, we shall examine types of inequalities found in out schools and their impact. We shall conclude the unit by looking at the skills required for enhancing equity and equality in the schools. -

UNIT 4.5: HEALTH AND NUTRITION PROMOTING SCHOOLS
Good health and proper nutrition are prerequisites for effective learning. Healthy, well-nourished children learn better. School health and nutrition programming is recognized as a means of improving children's nutritional status, learning achievement and general well-being. Children are exposed to many physical and physiological threats that jeopardize their health. Child- friendly schools and learning spaces mitigate these problems by creating a healthy school environment. In this unit we will focus on concepts related to health and nutrition, legal framework for health and nutrition, benefits of the health and nutritional friendly school, components of the health and nutrition promoting school and the skills required to implement the health and nutrition promoting school. -

UNIT 4.6: SCHOOL COMMUNITY LINKAGES
Schools do not exist in isolation; they reside within the communities they serve and must cultivate relationships with them. In this unit we will look at school community partnerships as a component of the child friendly school. We shall look at the importance of school community linkages and types of communities. We shall also look at the role of school community linkages and activities. In addition, we shall examine how to establish school community linkages and the skills that you should possess for effective implementation of the linkages.

UNIT4.7: PERTINENT AND CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN CFS
This is the final unit of this module. Here you will have the opportunity to examine emerging issues facing CFS including how they could be addressed. In this unit we are going to look at four major issues, namely, poverty, ethnicity, terrorism and global warming in the context of CFS. -
